Hollywood, Calif. (February 10, 2006) – Collectors of movie memorabilia now have the opportunity, starting today, to own two of the shirts so memorably worn by the Academy Award-nominated stars of this year’s biggest hit Best Picture Academy® Award nominee, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. This 10-day charity auction benefiting Variety – The Children’s Charity of Southern California will launch on Friday, February 10 at 5pm (PST). The auction will end at 5pm (PST) on Monday, February 20. These are the men’s shirts, originally selected by BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN costume designer Marit Allen and director Ang Lee, that have become iconic pieces of film history in the most Academy Award-nominated film of the year. The 2 (two) shirts are worn early in the film by Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal), in the portion of the story set in 1963, and then are seen again as the epic love story nears closure many years later. Everyone who has watched this movie — the biggest hit among this year’s Best Picture Oscar nominees — knows the emotional significance and impact of these shirts in this unforgettable film. BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN is nominated for 8 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.

“We are so grateful for the outpouring of donations from the Hollywood film community,” said Nancy Klueter, President of Variety – The Children’s Charity of Southern California. “Auction items such as these continue to raise awareness of our charity and mission to assist underprivileged children in Southern California. We are truly excited about this fantastic piece of film history going up for auction on February 10.”

Since its launch in November 2005, http://www.ebay.com/varietyskids has raised over $65,000 by auctioning off pieces of Hollywood memorabilia, including a car used in the filming of Herbie: Fully Loaded, signed movie memorabilia and movie premiere tickets. Other featured items on the February 10 date include a limited edition Ski-Doo Snowmobile used in the promotion of the James Bond film “Die Another Day” and a VIP taping of the hit WB television show “Reba”. Although the auction for these items as well as the BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN shirts will end on February 20, the site will continue to offer exciting one-of-a-kind items.
