SAN DIEGO AREA CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES TO RECEIVE ADAPTIVE BIKES
FROM VARIETY THE CHILDREN’S CHARITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Donation is Variety’s Single Largest Mobility Grant to San Diego Families

LOS ANGELES – February 6, 2015

On Saturday February 14th, fourteen children with disabilities, some who have been on the bike “wish list” for years, will gather at the new Regal Plaza Camino Real at 2525 El Camino Real in Carlsbad to receive their brand new bikes through Variety’s Mobility Program.

No child with disabilities should miss out on the opportunities and joys of able-bodied kids because the adaptive equipment is too expensive or not covered on insurance. Variety steps in for these kids when other resources step out. These bikes provide children with special needs confidence, freedom, much needed therapeutic exercise – and FUN.

“There is truly nothing more heartwarming than seeing a child with special needs ride their very own bike for the first time. Some of these kids cannot walk on their own – so when they get on a bike, disabilities seem to fade away. ” said Branden Miller, President of the Board of Directors, Variety of Southern California.

Long considered “The Heart of Show Business,” Variety found its roots in the entertainment industry on Christmas Eve 1928, when a baby girl was found abandoned on the seat of a movie theatre. The show business community rallied to support the child’s upbringing and education and the group grew into Variety the Children’s Charity – now with 43 chapters in 11 countries, raising $1.8 billion for children with special needs.
Variety the Children’s Charity of Southern California was founded in 1941 and is dedicated to inspiring hope, enriching lives and building a better future for the children of Southern California. The money raised in this community stays in this community allowing Variety to award over $700,000 annually to organizations which serve children in the areas of Health Care, Education and Mobility. Variety is also a major supporter of the Variety Boys and Girls Club of Boyle Heights.
